Frequently Asked Questions about VA Community Care and BlueDot Cares
Do I automatically qualify for in-home help through VA Community Care if I am a Veteran?
No. Service alone does not automatically qualify you for in-home support through VA Community Care. The VA reviews your health, safety needs, and caregiving situation to decide if in-home support is clinically appropriate and how many hours to authorize.
Who decides if I am eligible and how many hours I can receive?
Eligibility and the number of in-home support hours are determined by the VA or a VA-authorized care coordinator after an assessment. BlueDot Cares cannot approve, deny, or change your VA authorization.
How can BlueDot Cares help if I am not sure whether I qualify?
We can walk you through the typical steps to talk with your VA primary care provider, social worker, or care coordinator. We help you organize your concerns, describe your daily needs, and understand what to request so the VA can evaluate whether in-home support may be appropriate.
What happens if I already have VA authorization for in-home care?
If you already have VA-authorized in-home personal care hours, we can review your authorization details and work with you to start services as quickly and smoothly as possible, within the scope of what the VA has approved.
What kind of help can I receive through VA-authorized in-home support with BlueDot Cares?
Within the hours authorized by the VA, our caregivers can help with non-medical personal care, such as bathing and grooming, mobility support, meals, light housekeeping, and day-to-day routines that support safety and independence at home.
Can BlueDot Cares help if my needs change over time?
Yes. If your needs change, we can help you think through what is different and how to talk with your VA care team about a reassessment. Any changes to hours or scope of support must be approved by the VA, but we can help you prepare for that conversation.
BlueDot Cares is not affiliated with or endorsed by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Eligibility for VA-authorized services is determined by the VA.
